One Small Step for Building Codes; One Giant Step for the Tiny House Movement

This month the new 2015 version of the International Residential Code was released and the requirement that all homes have at least one room of 120 sq ft or more has been eliminated!

To be helpful for the construction of your own tiny home, your state will need to adopt this new IRC version. While all states have adopted the IRC, there is great diversity in the specific versions.

Nonetheless, it’s a giant step in the right direction!

The next big hurdle is zoning. Many areas still have restrictions on minimum house size.
