10/12 Architect Kengo Kuma develops tiny house for a nomadic lifestyle

Japanese tiny house on wheels

Architect Kengo Kuma has developed a prototype tiny house on wheels -‘jyubako’- in collaboration with Snow Peak, a Japanese manufacturer for outdoor goods.

From architect Kengo Kuma and Japanese outdoor goods company Snow Peak comes a new design for a tiny house on wheels. Based on simplifying everyday life to the bare necessities, the trailer-like build is a nature-oriented dwelling that allows users to adapt the space to their requirements.

Despite its small and sparse design, Kengo Kuma uses a combination of wood paneling to invoke a warm and welcoming interior. the series of windows can be opened outwards or closed completely – making the envelope of the trailer completely flush and appear as a timber box. as the project is in its early stages, the next steps will see more elements and utilities being integrated.
