One of the 5,000 or so visitors to this weekend’s Central Minnesota Builders Association Home Show could leave with a 215-square-foot tiny house.
The home is being auctioned off at the home show, which runs Friday through Sunday at River’s Edge Convention Center.
St. Cloud Technical & Community College students created the home, which has a loft, drop-down television and lightweight marble shower. It’s packed with built-in storage. There’s a ladder to get up to the loft, LED lighting, forced air propane heater, conduction cooktop, composting toilet and an exhaust fan with Bluetooth speakers.
The home’s design is based on the Tumbleweed Tiny House Cypress floorplan, but students made some modifications. It has creative touches, too, with a piece of metal artwork affixed by the loft…
Students started working on the home in October and completed it shortly before the Minneapolis Home and Garden Show, where it was part of a tiny house village. The house got a great reaction there, Strosahl said.
“The quality of what (the students) have produced has been just amazing,” he said. “People have loved it. They walk through there and go, ‘Oh my, this is so much nicer than what we thought it would be.’ And so that’s been really fun.”
The house has $32,000 of materials and work into it, so that’s the starting bid at auction. The auction is at 2 p.m. Sunday.
