Tiny homes are attracting big crowds, but one tiny home builder says there are a few things to consider before diving into the market.
Keith Schneider, the owner of Bohemian Cottages and Tiny Houses, said tiny home inquiries have spiked over the last three years.
“For every job we do we could do 20 or 30 more houses,” Schneider.
According to Schneider, there are many misconceptions regarding the cost of building a tiny home.
“People tend to think they can build a tiny home for $5,000 to $10,000, but our cost of material for one of these types of projects is typically in the $15,000 price range,” said Schneider.
He adds that this prices doesn’t include the price of tools needed or labor.
Schneider said, in tiny houses, square footage is also more expensive than an average home.
Another deception, is how quickly tiny homes can be built.
“It’s a yearlong process, so if you’re looking to get a house really quick to live in really fast, it’s not going to happen,” said Schneider.
